Saturday night at the Roxbury was very promising as we went with a club promoter who literally promised us a table and free drinks for the night. We had just taken a cab over from Beso, Eva Longoria's restaurant, where we sipped vodka sprites at the "Kiss" lounge. The lounge had a sexy vibe and very beautiful guests to match the decor. Already a bit buzzed, we passed the long line of men in our mini dresses and heels to get to the door at the Roxbury. The first room in the place feels like an arboretum but I couldn't tell if the plants were actually real or fake, much like the majority of the boobs that I saw that night. We went upstairs with our promoter and saw that the space up there was more of a club atmosphere but still maintains the arboretum theme. We walked up the stairs with our promoter who took us to a table which we promptly got kicked out of 5 minutes later. I took my friend straight to the bar and ordered two lemon drop shots which were served without a sugar rim and tasted way more sour than normal. Worst and only $24 I spent that night.
We spent the rest of the night wandering around dancing with strangers. Met interesting people from all over the place. Some self-proclaimed singers from Spain with a table and tequila. A director from Hollywood with vodka. An investment banker from New York with gin. Overall, there was a good ratio of men to women, about half and half which is probably the reason the line was so long outside (poor guys). The music was my favorite, house and radio hits. Although the DJ looked like he was 50, the music was definitely for 20-somethings who just want to dance until they can't feel their feet. Don't try dancing alone in this place though, you will get pounced on by several over-confident guys who want to take you home.
So what happened last night? With a group of two girls, it was easy to have a great time, but I don't think the place would be very accommodating to a big group of guys and girls. The drinks aren't cheap but we weren't paying. The crowd was big and the rooms were small. That's the whole point of a club so if you are a girl looking to party and dance, this is the place for you! If you are a guy, I would look for another spot.
It is nearly impossible to take pictures in the Roxbury because they are pumping fog through the air at all times so you can't see what your drinking or who your going home with, but here are two attempts for your viewing pleasure:
